Shazam for iOS, Android gets free lyric syncing

updated 03:55 pm EST, Wed November 16, 2011

Now works with non-premium iOS & all Android users

Shazam, the mobile song ID service, is now offering its lyric playing capability to a broader customer base. The feature, LyricPlay, is now available to iOS device owners using the company's free app (App Store) as well as all Android users (Android Market). Previously, it was only available to iOS device owners that had bought Shazam's premium Encore and RED apps.

Shazam initially made this lyric visualization and animation capability available to its Encore premium iOS users after the company acquired Tunezee in June. With LyricPlay, after a user tags a song they like, they can then tap the LyricPlay icon, and the words to the music will sync in time with the audio.

LyricPlay is available to Shazaam subscribers in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Italy, Germany and Spain. The various versions of the Shazam app are available from outside sources on Android, including the Amazon Appstore, AT&T's AppCenter, and Verizon's V Cast app portal.
