More sophisticated style aims at upscale market
The Monster Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, widely popular with hip-hop, urban and top 40 music listeners but sometimes derided as overly bass-heavy by critics, are expanding the lineup beyond other celebrity-designed earphones to an entire new line aimed at an older and more business-oriented demographic with the new, brushed-metal-finish Executive line. The new headphones offer a brushed-metal styling and auto-shutoff when idle.
As with other entries in Monster's headphone lineup, the headphones include a rechargeable battery to provide noise cancellation. The Executive model includes many of the same features as the established Beats headphones, including the auto-shutoff when the headphones are idle to save battery life. The model features elegant accents and a leather headband.
Pricing and availability have not yet been announced, though listeners can sign up for e-mail updates when the headphones become available. The Dr. Dre edition of the Beats headphones retail for $300.
