Foursquare gets iPad-friendly HTML5 web remake

updated 05:30 pm EST, Tue November 15, 2011

Foursquare tackles iPad with location-aware page

Foursquare picked Tuesday to show a heavily redesigned version of its main website. The page depends on HTML5 and uses it for a fully location-aware map; users can browse nearby areas without having to search for them or use their phones. The interface is also suited to the iPad, although users can't yet check in.

The page always gives recommendations based on the current time of day, changing based on the kind of meals or proximity. those who've switched on Radar also get proximity alerts if there's a guided tour near the computer.

Additional web updates help catch up, such as a much cleaner and potentially more informative place page, follow suggestions, commenting directly from the home page, and points on profile pages.

Getting the full location features needs a modern browser that can use it, such as any iOS or Android device as well as most recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer 9, and Safari on the desktop.
