Virgin Mobile, Bell put Galaxy Nexus intro in early December

updated 08:55 am EST, Mon November 14, 2011

Virgin Mobile first Canadian Galaxy Nexus carrier

(Update: Bell too) Virgin Mobile jumped the gun Monday to become the first Canadian carrier to officially commit to the Galaxy Nexus. A pre-order page now lets Canadians sign up for the Android 4.0 flagship, which the carrier has narrowed down to a launch in early December. It didn't give pricing, but it expects the phone to get a discount through its SuperTab plans, including a promo plan for $70 per month with just 200 minutes but 6GB of data and unlimited weekends and evenings from 6PM.

Its version will be the HSPA+ 3G model, which won't get speeds as quick as on LTE but should still peak at 21Mbps. Every Galaxy Nexus has a 4.65-inch, 720p display, a dual-core 1.2GHz TI OMAP processor, and a very fast five-megapixel rear camera joined by a front 1.3-megapixel sensor. The smartphone is still one of the few to have NFC built-in for short-range tags and payments.

Other Canadian carriers, and likely American Canadian carriers, are expected to
commit to their launches later on Monday. Although Virgin Mobile claims to be "first," Google has officially put the Galaxy Nexus in Canada for November, suggesting that either another carrier will launch sooner or that it will be available unlocked slightly earlier.

Update: Virgin's Canadian parent company, Bell, has also confirmed plans to carry the Galaxy Nexus in early December.
