Offers 5GB free to Android & iOS devices and PCs

Pogoplug has released Pogoplug Cloud, an online storage service for smartphones, tablets and computers. The company is currently running an introductory promotion which offers subscribers up to 5GB storage. Mobile users can download a free app to access the service (free, App Store, Android Market).

The cloud-based service brings auto-uploading of photos and videos directly from a mobile device, streaming back to a subscriber's phone, and sharing of cloud-stored content through email, Facebook, Twitter and Google+. Users can also create shared folders for collaborating with friends and colleagues.

Pogocloud sees itself as providing an alternative to other cloud based services including iCloud, Dropbox, and It seeks to differentiate itself by offering subscribers local as well as cloud storage using its Pogoplus Series 3 and recently released Pogoplug Mobile combined storage and Internet access devices.

Pogocloud is now offering 5GB of lifetime storage for free. For those wanting greater storage capacity, the company in the future, will be offering 50GB for $10 per month and 100GB for $20 per month. While the mobile apps are free, Pogocloud is charging PC and Mac users a one time fee of $29 for its remote access software. A limited trial, with no media streaming, is available at no cost.

The 5GB of free storage matches iCloud's offering. Its 100GB offering comes in at half the cost of iCloud per gigabyte. Competitor, however, which also normally offers 5GB of storage for free, currently is offering 50GB of permanent cloud capacity at no cost.
