Rumors revive of LG giving Apple 4in iPhone, 7in iPad LCDs

LG Display supposedly in display talk

A rumor [since pulled] from the Korea Times has rekindled talk of Apple sourcing new LG screens. Both companies are purportedly meeting in the next few days to give Apple a four-inch LCD for the new iPhone and an unusual 7.35-inch tablet display. The four-inch screen would supposedly keep the 640x960 resolution, since it would provide "better cost-cuts," the Korean outlet said.

LG Display is believed to have a four-inch display matching that resolution due sometime in 2012, but the tablet display remains an unknown. Late Apple chief Steve Jobs in a well-known conference call ruled out a seven-inch tablet, arguing that such screens required too many compromises in screen area and interface to be worth picking over either a 9.7-inch iPad or a smartphone. Jobs was well-known for feints, however, denying that Apple would make a video-capable iPod, make a cellphone, or make a tablet, only to do the very thing once Apple had figured out its own approach.

Apple is known to be working on an LTE iPhone, possibly next year, and may be hesitant to add to the costs beyond whatever the 4G chipset will have.

Pressure has existed for Apple to up the screen size of the iPhone. Many Android phones, even budget phones, regularly carry four-inch or larger displays. Apple's remains one of the sharpest displays on the market but is now considered small.

believe it when I see it...

Yeah, I suppose that now that Steve is gone, Apple will just start caving in to what "analysts" and "pundits" say they need to do.

    Oh, wait!

Additional size choices has always been logical evolution when it appears that consumers find value in multiple size choices.

Apple prototypes many models with many screen sizes for testing. This is not indicative that a product is coming.

    4-inch iPhone?

Are you saying Steve was wrong??

7-inch iPad? What is the Apple sku for sandpaper? Can you use generic sandpaper or will that degrade the "User Experience"?
