Kindle Touch pre-orders to arrive by Nov 17

Users eagerly awaiting the arrival of their pre-ordered Kindle Touch have started receiving shipping notifications for their devices early. Initially expected to arrive after November 21, some users can expect to start receiving their devices by November 17 or earlier. The Kindle Touch was unveiled at the same time as the Kindle Fire, which remains on track to ship to users by November 15.

The Kindle Touch marks the first time Amazon has offered a touchscreen-based E-ink e-reader. The multitouch-capable device stores up to 3,000 books and supports text-to-speech, audiobooks and MP3 files. Over Wi-Fi, users can expect to receive purchases within 60 seconds. It also incorporates a new 'X-Ray' feature that allows users to quickly look up the details of historical characters or phrases. The device pre-caches Wikipedia to enable the quick access.

The Kindle Touch can be ordered through Amazon for $99 for the Wi-Fi only model. A 3G model can be ordered through AT&T, but does not support web surfing, despite the mobile Internet connection.
