Meizu MX prototype photos slip out

updated 11:35 pm EST, Sun November 13, 2011

Meizu MX seen for first time

The Meizu MX got its first public outing through a sighting on the company's forums that was caught on MeizuMe before it was pulled. The upcoming Android smartphone is taking a somewhat sleeker back design with a large space for the camera lens. Its front currently has traces of the iPhone's look, although the low-quality shot and its prototype nature make it difficult to say if this will carry through to production.

Beyond this, Meizu chief Jack Wong said the phone is still on track to ship in December and just recently started using Google's Roboto font from Android 4.0, even though it will ship with Android 2.3.

The MX is upsizing the one-time iPhone clone to a 4.3-inch, 640x960 screen, but also promises to be particularly fast. A 16GB version will have a dual-core processor, but a 32GB version will jump to a quad-core chip and could beat many larger phone makers to the extra processing power. When it does ship, it will cost the equivalent of $625 for 16GB and $780 for 32GB.
