South Korean iPhone 4S launch sees long lineups

updated 11:25 am EST, Fri November 11, 2011

One of many Friday launches

Today's South Korean iPhone 4S launch was met with long lines, at least at KT's flagship store in downtown Seoul, says local news agency Yonhap. There a lineup is said to have formed before sunrise. SK Telecom is also putting iPhones on sale however, marking an end to KT's exclusivity. The first 100 people to pre-order with SK were treated to a midnight event where phones were activated and Korean hip-hop acts performed.

Apple is rolling out the iPhone 4S to over a dozen new regions on Friday. Aside from South Korea these include Albania, Armenia, Bulgaria, El Salvador, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Malta, Montenegro, New Zealand, Panama, Poland, Portugal, and Romania. The Hong Kong launch is reported to have been especially large, with thousands of people flocking to the city's single Apple Store. Apple has no direct retail presence in Korea.

Yeah, but that's because Apple forces it's buyers to line up to buy their phones. Go to an apple store, they've got the roped off line to buy an iPhone (even though you already reserved it and just need to go in and pick it up).

Of course, you could just order it from Apple and have it delivered. Oh, wait, they'll only deliver it to your house. And you need to sign for it. Oh well, no problem. People who can afford an iPhone can just take the day off from work. Or they don't work at all.

testudo, if someone posted a comment that the sun rises in the east, you'd have a contrary point of view. It's like you need to contradict someone in order to get your d*** up or something.

And yet, I notice you complain about genericisms, not my actual comment. You can't just go into an apple store and buy a phone. Why not? What is so special that one needs to line up (outside, for all to see) and wait their turn? Why can't one buy an iphone online and just pick it up in the store?

Oh, wait, no answers for those. But don't worry, you can just downgrade me away, right...
