Staples to cut BlackBerry PlayBook to $200 on Black Friday

updated 03:15 pm EST, Wed November 9, 2011

PlayBook will be cut to just $200 on Black Friday

Come November 25, RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will get a price drop to $200 at Staples. The retailer's intentions were unveiled by a leaked flyer. The $200 represents a $300 savings from the 16GB, Wi-Fi tablet's original price tag, though it has since been temporarily lowered to $300 at Staples and Office Depot as well as elsewhere.

The "door-buster" will be offered in-store only, and purchases are limited to only one per customer. Stores will open at 6AM, and the door buster deals will expire at noon.

The tablet's poor sales no doubt drove the discount, and those were in turn a fault of the tablet's lack of native e-mail support, calendars and other key apps. A relatively small seven-inch screen has sometimes contributed to the concerns. RIM won't have fixes for software issues until February, abough eight months after its first promised update. Not cheap enough

To move these things, they need to lower the price to more like $99 which it probably at or a bit below their cost.
