Apple releases iAd Producer 2.0, adds auto-checker, more

updated 07:00 pm EST, Tue November 8, 2011

Also improvements in editor and animation library

Apple today updated its iAd Producer program to version 2.0, just shy of a year since the program debuted. The new version features a new Object List that shows all objects and elements, a Project Validation function that "automatically checks the size and type of image assets, and that pages and components are configured correctly" before submission to Apple, and new animation tools and page objects as well as code-editing improvements and more.

The program allows developers to create object-oriented, visually-programmed interactive, animated and static advertisements for Apple's iAd initiative, which runs on iOS and Mac devices. Developers gather and animate assets as desired, with the underlying HTML5, CSS and Javascript coding mostly handled by the program. It offers pre-built templates, libraries of interactive elements and controls, JavaScript debugging and editing and an iAd simulator for Mac and iOS devices.

The new version adds more precise control over object position, scale, opacity and other attributes, along with new Map View, Mosaic View, Multi View, Store View and Zoetrope page objects. The new Project Validator checks not only common errors but will identify areas where the project could be optimized, reducing performance issues. It also now has page-by-page controls for image pre-loading.
