HTC Rezound unveiled at event

As expected, HTC's New York City event saw the introduction of the Rezound. Verizon's Android 2.3 flagship is the first in the US with Beats Audio and carries both a special set of in-ear headphones as well as a unique audio profile that kicks in when the headphones are plugged in. It's also just the second phone after the Galaxy Nexus to have a 720p (720x1280) screen, and at 4.3 inches is sharper than its 4.65-inch Samsung rival.

The hardware is faster than the Raider and Vivid it's based on, ramping up the dual-core Snapdragon from 1.2GHz to a newer-generation 1.5GHz version. HTC still gives it an eight-megapixel, wide f2.2 aperture camera with 1080p video at the back and a 1.3-megapixel camera up front. LTE-based 4G makes its expected appearance and gives the phone a claimed 5-12Mbps for download speeds on average.

The hardware always has 1GB of RAM and 16GB built-in. Verizon's model carries an extra 16GB microSDHC card.

Sense 3.5 ships on the phone and provides extras like launching apps from the lock screen as well as HTC's newest home screen and camera app. HTC hasn't committed to a definitive upgrade path for Android 4.0 but estimated that the phone will get it early next year.

Verizon will have the phone on November 14 at a relatively on-par $300 on contract.
