Yahoo intros three iPad apps and one for Android

Yahoo swung out a full-scale mobile push on Wednesday with multiple apps for the iPad and a lone app for Android. Its long-promised Livestand (free, App Store) leads the group and hopes to provide a constantly updating, tablet-optimized magazine layout similar to Flipboard. As we saw first-hand earlier, it runs on an HTML5 framework and filters content into channels such as finances, news, entertainment, and weather.

While Flipboard is landing content deals, Yahoo has special deals with major publishers, such as Bonnier for Parenting and Forbes. Content also gets dynamic ads, including specially optimized ads from DreamWorks, Toyota, and others.

The app is currently only accessible in the US. Android was promised initially and should still be coming, but hasn't been given a hard release date.

A revamped version 2.0 of IntoNow for iPads and iPhones (free, App Store) provides a more ambitious attempt to integrate iOS with TVs. A sync button helps identify a live or pre-recorded show and provides relevant content. Along with more details of the show, it has discussions and tracks Twitter discussion.

Strictly on the web, Yahoo Mail has received its own treatment. Although it supports other tablet browsers, the content is optimized for the iPad's dimensions and carries personal news and weather along with high-demand videos.

Just one Android app is launching in the mobile initiative. Yahoo Weather (free, Android Market) draws on the search firm's connection to Flickr to get crowd-sourced photo backdrops based on the user's location. The title promises faster access to detailed conditions by tilting the phone and lets users share forecasts as well as get a quick-access weather widget and Weather Channel access.
