ASUS Transformer Prime reaches the FCC just before launch

updated 05:15 pm EDT, Wed November 2, 2011

Tablet hybrid set to arrive November 9

ASUS' Transformer Prime tablet appears to have arrived at the FCC for compliance tests. Commission documents do not shed light on any unexpected features, however the device's presence at the FCC suggests the company is on track with its launch plans that are expected to be fully detailed at an event on November 9.

The Prime is said to be the first device to arrive with NVIDIA's quad-core Tegra 3 chipset, which is claimed to support a battery life up to 14 hours. Leaked pictures show a brushed aluminum body, along with a keyboard dock that maintains the same basic functionality as the original Transformer hybrid system.

Recent rumors suggest the tablet will ship with Android 3.2, before receiving an upgrade to Android 4.0 at a later date.

ASUS has yet to officially confirm ship dates or pricing information, though the tablet is expected to cost $499. [via Engadget]
