European high-end brand comes to US

European speaker maker Libratone has introduced two new speaker systems, the Live and Lounge, that are designed to work with Apple's AirPlay standard. The Lounge system is the larger of the two, offering Scandinavian aesthetics and a combination of ribbon-based tweeters and midrange drivers that are designed to disperse sound in different directions.

The Lounge cabinet integrates a single 50W bass driver, two 25W tweeters and two 25W midrange speakers, with a frequency response of 38Hz to 20,000kHz.

The Live is built into a smaller package, though the five-inch subwoofer, three-inch midrange drivers and one-inch tweeters are powered by the same 150W amplifier as the Lounge. The smaller variant provides a frequency response of 45Hz to 20kHz.

The Libratone Live is now available in grey, black or beige colors with prices starting at $699, while red and green cashmere options bring the price up to $799. The Lounge costs $1299 in the basic colors, or $1399 in the cashmere schemes.
