Rebate announcement tips Verizon's hand

Verizon could be releasing three new Android smartphones to the market in the very near future based on leaks. Although there is no direct evidence, Engadget spotted a rebate form from the carrier which lists the Samsung Illusion, Casio G'zOne Ravine 2, and BlackBerry Curve 9370 as being part of an upcoming rebate promotion. The timing of the rebate period varied, but ended at the furthest on November 28.

The Samsung Illusion's details are nebulous. Apart from a compact 320x480 screen, it should have either a three- or five-megapixel camera, and either an 800MHz or 1GHz processor. Verizon originally was expected to ship the phone in late September, but that date has passed.

The BlackBerry Curve 9370 is a variant of RIM's 9360. Like the 9360, it will run the new BlackBerry 7 OS. It also shares a 2.44-inch, 480x360 display, a five-megapixel camera with LED flash, and VGA video recording. It differs from the 9360 in that it supports both CDMA locally and GSM for roaming, and carries 1GB versus 512MB of built-in storage.

Not much is known about the Casio G'zOne Ravine 2, but if its anything like its predecessor, it is ruggedized and targets the active or outdoors user.
