Lumia 800 arrives in UK on November 16

The Nokia Lumia 800 has been confirmed to arrive in the UK market on November 16. The Windows Phone-powered device is a near-clone of the N9, which runs on MeeGo. The Lumia also arrives a day earlier than the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

While pricing hasn't yet been confirmed, Nokia earlier said it would cost 420 euros in Europe. Its major features include a 1.4GHz single-core Snapdragon processor with 512MB of RAM. It has 16GB of storage space and 25GB of free SkyDrive space. The user interfaces using a 3.7-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display. An 8-megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and its wide f2.2 aperture is meant to excel in low-light conditions.

At the same time, Nokia revealed it would increase the amount of hotspots in the UK. They would be based in 26 payphones owned by its partner Spectrum Interactive. Based on a trial basis, it success would mean similar set-ups would be made in other cities around the world.

Users will need to agree to terms and conditions but not have to provide any personal details. Web access won't be restricted, but will be limited to 20mbps at first, though no single user will get more than 1mbps. The hotspots will be centered around Oxford Street, but will also include train stations, with Victoria being one of them. Devices from all manufacturers will be supported, including phones and tablets. [via Engadget and The Telegraph]

    what?

26 payphones? Over the whole UK? 26 payphones won't even cover a decent sized city street. What a waste of time.
