Pantech to bring out smartphones with gesture recognition

updated 05:10 pm EDT, Mon October 31, 2011

Pantech teams with eyeSight on gesture system

Korea's Pantech aims to make distinctive smartphones thanks to adding gesture recognition to its wares. Developed in conjunction with Israel-based eyeSight Mobile Technologies, the feature will come to the Vega LTE. The feature will allow answering calls and controlling music playback without ever touching the phone.

These could be useful when driving, wearing gloves or, as the embedded ad shows, having your hands covered in batter.

The Vega LTE would be Pantech's flagship device, sporting a 4G LTE radio, 4.5-inch, 720x1280 touchscreen, and a dual-core, 1.5GHz CPU paired with 1GB of RAM. NFC, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, T-DMB TV tuner and 16GB of storage space are also accounted for. There is no indication of whether or not Pantech plans to bring the Vega LTE to the US.
