Rumor has AirPlay Mirroring, iMessage enroute to Mac OS X

updated 07:45 am EDT, Mon October 31, 2011

Apple may take more iOS features to Mac soon

An as yet unverified rumor asserts that Apple's "Back to the Mac" philosophy will continue with two more key additions. A 9to5 tip had both AirPlay Mirroring and iMessage in development. Although code references have alluded to iMessage coming to iChat, Apple was supposedly working on both a stand-alone app and an integrated client to determine which was better, possibly the same strategy used for FaceTime.

AirPlay has become an OS-wide feature on iOS but has had only limited presence on the Mac, where it's mostly limited to iTunes music. AirPlay Mirroring would cover most instances and could be a boon to workplaces or home theaters, where an Apple TV could be an easier alternative for presentations or movies than a video out cable.

iMessage for the Mac would provide a way of continuing a conversation once at home or at work as well as an advantage over BlackBerry Messenger. RIM's service is currently limited only to its phones and to PlayBooks tethered to nearby BlackBerrys.

    iMessage Welcome

I always hated having a full keyboard in front of me but having to type text messages on my phone. I missed the ability to send texts from Address Book via a BlueTooth-connected phone, when that feature disappeared (though I forget if Apple dropped the feature or I got a new phone that didn't support it).

    What about iBooks?

I'm still hoping that Apple will create an iBooks application for MacOS X. Kindle and Nook are available as MacOS X applications. Why not iBooks?
