Best Buy revives HP TouchPad, HP out of stock [U]

updated 06:45 pm EDT, Fri October 28, 2011

Best Buy sells TouchPad at 150 when linked to PC

(Update: HP runs out) Best Buy in an unusual Friday deal brought back the HP TouchPad for a special and possibly final deal. Anyone who buys an HP or Compaq desktop or notebook can add the 32GB version of the webOS tablet for the same $150 it cost during the fire sale period. The sale starts November 1 and doesn't have a specified end date.

The sale applies both online and in stores.

HP recently started resuming some sales of the TouchPad in a small capacity, but it's possible the Best Buy deal may be one of if not the last chances at the tablet before it disappears. Officially, HP planned the end to its webOS hardware in fall but didn't give a hard finish date.

Best Buy may have been one of the most deeply burned by HP's trouble selling the TouchPad. Although never directly confirmed, it might have sold just 25,000 TouchPads before the price slash and ended up with about 250,000 unsold units, possibly leading it to refuse to pay for the unsold models.

Update: Various reports, including from The Loop, have emerged confirming that HP is now out of stock itself. Customers trying to buy online are being told that, apart from supply at retail shops like Best Buy, the company has no more to sell. The statement puts an end to the TouchPad and possibly all webOS hardware.
