Verizon confirms the Samsung Galaxy Nexus as US exclusive

updated 06:45 am EDT, Thu October 27, 2011

Galaxy Nexus on Verizon first

Verizon has confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be an exclusive for its network in the US. However, how long that will remain true has not been made clear at this time. What is certain is that when it launches as expected on November 10, it will only be available on Verizon. The company has posted a sign-up page where users can sign up to be informed about launch details.

The Galaxy Nexus is the first phone to feature Google's latest mobile operating system Android 4.0. Samsung's own teaser page indicates that up to seven US carriers will eventually carry the device in total. It will be Verizon's first Nexus model, and which also happens to be the most highly anticipated Nexus device to date.

The device is expected to be $300 on a two-year contract. The Galaxy Nexus is in essence a highly modified version of Samsung's Galaxy S II HD LTE and retains that device's 720p 4.65-inch curved Super AMOLED display. It is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and will be the first Android mobile phone that fully supports dual-core processing.
