Updated app due on Thursday
The next version of Pixelmator, 2.0, is due on Thursday, reports say. The image editing tool is often considered a Photoshop alternative, since it shares similar functions while costing substantially less. The v2.0 upgrade represents a substantial overhaul, for instance including a redesigned interface with a new look.
The software is also getting new Healing and Content-Aware Fill tools, the latter mimicking an option in Photoshop CS5 which lets users remove objects from scenes more seamlessly. New Smudge, Sponge, Burn, Dodge and Eyedropper tools are being added, along with ones for fonts, vector drawing, and red-eye reduction. The Pixel Tool allows per-pixel editing of graphics.
App-wide changes include customizable tools palettes, a contextual Tool Options bar, and a new Info Bar, which provides tool-specific data. The software should also gain compatibility with OS X Lion's Auto Save and Versions features, preventing the loss of work while also enabling people to revert to earlier states. Pixelmator costs $30 on the Mac App Store.
