Sony rumored to be after Aaron Sorkin for Steve Jobs movie

updated 04:55 pm EDT, Tue October 25, 2011

Writer had personal connection to Jobs

Sony is treating Aaron Sorkin its top choice for writing the upcoming Steve Jobs movie, the Los Angeles Times reports. The paper's information is said to come from an anonymous source briefed on the film. Sorkin has allegedly been considering the job, but as of yesterday had not made a decision.

The writer and producer may have been picked partly because of his involvement on The Social Network, a fictionalized portrayal of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Sorkin is moreover said to have known Jobs, who at one point approached him to write a Pixar movie, which he rejected saying he didn't think he could "make inanimate objects talk." Sorkin is also known for his work on movies like Moneyball and Charlie Wilson's War, as well as the long-running TV series The West Wing.

Many media outlets have been quick to capitalize on Jobs' popularity. Some projects have included a Discovery documentary, and most notably a biography by Walter Isaacson. The latter has become a bestseller, helped by a marketing campaign in which excerpts were seeded to news organizations; Isaacson himself appeared on 60 Minutes with recordings of Jobs in tow.

    The ABSOLUTE best

In my opinion Aaron Sorkin is one of the most talented screen (TV or Movie) writers ever! He is always thought provoking and never writes down to an audience. His fast paced style would seem to correlate to Steve Jobs' somewhat frenetic energy. I can think of no other I would rather see turn Isaacson's bio of S.J. into a most compelling movie.
