Samsung Galaxy Nexus coming quickly for Canada, Japan

updated 07:45 am EDT, Tue October 18, 2011

Galaxy Nexus to come soon for NTT DoCoMo, Canada

Google and Samsung dropped clues of a turnaround as quick as a month for the Galaxy Nexus (Nexus Prime) when unveiled at their special event Tuesday night in Hong Kong. Samsung's press in Canada has promised Electronista that the device, which it didn't name, would be coming to the country "soon." Details would be available with the next few weeks, a spokeswoman said.

The Nexus S arrived late to Canada and only showed up in March, four months after the US, but it arrived on virtually every carrier. Samsung has hinted at a much quicker schedule and may repeat the same pattern of reaching every carrier both in locked and unlocked form.

Japan's NTT DoCoMo in the interim has posted word on Twitter that it too would be quick. The carrier should be "nearly the fastest in the world" to have the phone and will have it in November.

Verizon is poised to be the first and possibly only carrier in the US, with leaks of a November 10 date and a $300 contract price for the new Nexus. A version has still shown up at the FCC with AT&T and T-Mobile 3G and leaves room open for a non-exclusive launch in the US if it doesn't just represent a Canadian version.

The phone, whatever its ultimate destination, is expected to center on a very high-end 4.65-inch, 720p curved screen and will run the just completed Android 4.0, or Ice Cream Sandwich. A dual-core processor either from TI or from Samsung itself should power the device and may help drive a fast five-megapixel rear camera.
