Motorola teases images of new handset a day early

Motorola is pre-empting its October 18 press event it's holding in conjunction with Verizon in New York City with packages sent out to bloggers, with MobileBurn getting one. It hints at what will be revealed, with the teaser image pointing to the Spyder/Droid RAZR, as previously believed. Items in the box include a model SR-71 Blackbird jet, some chocolate-covered mint candies, a mouse pad with a carbon fiber motif, and a Motorola-branded Rubik's Cube.

They are each respectively supposed to symbolize the theme of the event, explained on one of the cards in the box.

"Faster. Thinner. Smarter. Stronger," it reads. "Unveil the story. You've got one piece of the exclusive puzzle pieces that will unlock the first official image of Motorola's next big innovation."

The other contained a code and a special website to log into, which revealed one of 16 images that would create a puzzle and show off the whole handset. Similar to Valve Software's teasers for Mac game launches, Motorola wants the 16 or so sites to which it sent the packages to work together and unveil the device.

Early specs of the smartphone include a Motorola-first 540x960 Super AMOLED touchscreen, a fast 1.2GHz (likely TI OMAP) processor, 1GB of RAM, and an eight-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video capture.
