Google IO hints Android Jelly Bean schedule

Google gave a clue as to the schedule of Android's Jelly Bean update Monday with word of the schedule for Google I/O 2012. The developer and tech expo is due at the Moscone Center in San Francisco on April 24 and 25. While it didn't provide clues as to the future path itself, it pointed to past events as indicators of what would likely happen.

A new Android version has usually surfaced at Google I/O in the past few years and hints that Google might have its first version of Android after Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) ready sooner than other OS updates have come in the past; I/O has often taken place in May. Jelly Bean is rumored to be a more sweeping update than its yet to be released predecessor, but what that means hasn't been explained.

This year, Google I/O showed only just a small glimpse of Ice Cream Sandwich features but also showed off Android 3.1 as well as future technology like Android@Home. Everyone at the event also got the first production US version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Google never officially confirms hardware plans but regularly tries to link a 'halo' phone or tablet to each event.
