Woz queues for iPhone 4S: how 'all mobile devices' should be

updated 07:10 am EDT, Fri October 14, 2011

Woz first in line at Apple store for iPhone 4S

Keeping with his tradition, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak queued up as first in line at the Los Gatos Apple store. He mentioned unintentionally beating out an unfortunate early visitor who lined up on the wrong side of the road. In chats with those around him, he said he planned to stay up all night and sleep only afterwards.

In a brief overnight interview, he also gave his reasons for camping out despite his status giving him early access. The camera was a strong point, he told TechCrunch, but he was most interested in Siri. He saw it as the future of devices, letting him not just skip tapping the screen but to get answers, not just search results.

"This is the way I want all mobile devices to be," Wozniak said.

Wozniak saw the iPhone almost as a form of science fiction. He and the late Steve Jobs had anticipated breakthroughs in technology, but only in "the vaguest way," he said. The two had seen a computer in every home, but not natural language commands on a phone.

When asked what models he was getting, the tech pioneer mentioned that he was getting Verizon for him and his wife. It was the more "reliable" network, and he already had GSM phones for traveling, Wozniak explained.

Apple should just give him one...

Seriously? Woz has to wait in line? Apple should just give him a new one everytime one comes out.

He said he's got two AT&T 4S phones being delivered to his home to replace his current AT&T iPhones, and he is in line picking up a Verizon 4S for his wife.
