Tips: Nexus Prime may get HTC, Motorola counterparts

updated 07:45 pm EDT, Fri October 14, 2011

Android 4 may ship stock on HTC, Motorola in 2011

Samsung's Nexus Prime, or Galaxy Nexus, might not be the only device shipping with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) in 2011. Well-known and historically reliable leaker black_man_x posted word that HTC and Motorola would be carrying devices with the stock Android 4.0 interface this year. He didn't say what devices would get it or when they might arrive.

The new Nexus is expected to be the banner carrier for the new OS and may get the usual Google branding and first-priority updates of the Nexus line. If HTC and Motorola also sign on without pushing their custom interfaces, they too might fast updates, although it's more likely these would just be regular phones without special marketing treatment.

Some doubt exists around the claims given the lack of leaks. While the Samsung phone has been repeatedly leaked, all HTC and Motorola device leaks so far have referred to devices using Android 2.3 and custom interfaces. Their devices might either be kept secret or else reserved for a later launch, if official at all.

Google is rumored to have made TI's OMAP processors the reference models for Android 4.0 and to have sped up the time to create a stock phone as a result.
