DEal open for next 50 days for lifetime 50storage
Box.net, the online content access, sharing and collaboration service is offering 50GB of free storage to owners of iPads, iPhones and iPod touches. The cloud-based storage is free "forever," it claims The offer itself is time limited, starting tonight at midnight and running for the next 50 days.
To get the offer, a user just needs log in to their Box account using the latest version (2.4.3) of the Box iOS app (free, App Store). In addition to the storage, Box has upped the maximum size of a file upload from 25MB to 100MB. Once activated, the user can access the content from almost anywhere the Internet reaches using an iOS device, notebook, or desktop computer.
Box is using the promotion to promote the latest features of the Box app. Using AirPlay, a user can now wirelessly stream Box content to an Apple TV or another AirPlay-supporting destination.
This is not the first time Box offered free storage. It also offered HP TouchPad owners 50GB of storage back in August. The offer to owners of iOS devices may not be driven by goodwill or publicity. It may be a preemptive move by Box to keep iPad and iPhone owners from jumping onto Apple's iCloud service, which went live yesterday.
Box normally offers 5GB of online storage free for personal usage. The company charges $10 for 25GB of storage and $20 for 50GB. Business users pay $15 per month for 500GB of storage.
