CyanogenMod releases Alpha 1 for TouchPad

The CyanogenMod 7.1.0 for HP's defunct webOS TouchPad has been made available for download and given a video preview (embedded below). The project is aiming to get a usable version of Google's Android 2.3 running effectively, with support built-in to run multiple operating systems. The team has called the Alpha 1 release its "Lower your expectations" edition, which is designed to indicate that it is still very much a work in progress.

However, team says in its post that technically competent hobbyists and developers who are interested in testing the early development port are invited to test their work to date. So far, the support community has been successful in enabling several functions. Among them include, ten-point multi-touch, functional Wi-Fi, camera support for video chat, and limited GPU acceleration.

The video below demonstrates that Android is booting successfully on HP's TouchPad and is functioning quite stably. [via Roots Wiki]
