Hands on: HTC Titan Windows Phone

updated 06:20 pm EDT, Wed October 12, 2011

WP7 cousin to Sensation XL

HTC brought two of its largest smartphones to CTIA, the Titan and Sensation XL. Electronista took a close look at the Titan, which serves as the Windows Phone counterpart to the Android-based Sensation XL. Both handsets share the same essential hardware, centering around an enormous 4.7-inch display, though the Titan lacks the XL's white housing and Beats branding.

The display necessitates an equally large housing, though the whole package measures less than 10mm thick. Potential customers who want the big screen may find the size to be an acceptable tradeoff, as the display does provide great presentation of text, images and videos.

HTC's previous Windows Phone flagship, the HD7, integrated a kickstand on the back. We would have liked to see the same feature on the Titan, especially considering its large screen for movie playback, however the pop-out leg is nowhere to be found.

The handset seemed to be snappy with its 1.5GHz processor, though we suspect it may be outgunned by competing devices with dual-core chips.

The Titan is expected to launch in Europe later this month, but US carrier AT&T has yet to publicly commit to a time frame.
