Sony recalls 1.6 million faulty Bravia TVs

Sony is recalling 1.6 million Bravia TVs worldwide after it was found that some models were emitting smoke or had internal parts melting due to faulty componentary. So far, the company has learned of and investigated 11 separate instances where users reported the issues. To date, the issue has only been reported in Japan, however, the company has said that the faulty parts may affect Bravia TV sets worldwide.

The Bravia models under recall were made in 2007 and 2008 and were mostly sold to customers in the US and Europe. However, some of the models were also sold in Japan and other territories. Sony is planning to issue an advisory to customers on its various global websites and by email where customers have registered their products.
