Microsoft Surface 2.0 touch tables pushed back to January

updated 01:30 pm EDT, Wed October 12, 2011

$7,600 40-inch device offers table-top computing

First announced in January this year, the launch of the next generation Microsoft Surface touch table computer has been postponed. The 40-inch Microsoft Surface 2.0, also known as the Samsung SUR40, was expected to be available for purchase later this year. Samsung has now slipped the official release date back to January of next year.

Neither Microsoft nor Samsung explained the delay, but some Surface developers indicated there were some issues with the software powering the device. The four-inch thick computer on legs runs a version of the Windows 7 Professional OS on an embedded AMD Athlon II X2 2.9GHz processor. It comes paired with an AMD Radeon HD 6700M Series GPU. The 40-inch touchscreen offers a 1920x1080 (1080p) resolution.

The table is expected to carry a $7,600 price tag when shipped. The original release 1.0 of the Surface is priced around $12,000. [via ZDnet]

    Going nowhere

Microsoft made a lot of concept video but they has never come with a real world successful application of Surface computer, actually Microsoft has never define what an 12000$ touch table can be good use at. Microsoft is going nowhere with their surface table.
