Xfinity to expand to more consoles, connected TVs

Comcast will bring its Xfinity video-on-demand service to consoles other than just the Xbox 360 as well as other TVs and set-tops. These include Nintendo's Wii and Sony's PS3, as well as LG and Samsung TVs along with the Roku media hub. Comcast Converged Products president Sam Schwartz revealed these plans at a panel on Thursday.

"We want to be on screens that consumers want us to be on," Schwartz said.

The Xbox Xfinity interface will allow users to scroll through titles with the game controller and the UI will display cover art of music. Navigation can also be done using the Kinect add-on with simple gesture controls or voice commands.

Schwartz also talked about Comcast's Xcalibur project. It provides Internet-connected apps like weather, traffic, Pandora and Facebook. The trial is underway in 1,000 households in Augusta, Georgia. [via MultiChannel]
