SoftBank head hints 2012 iPhone may see Jobs' touch

SoftBank CEO Son says Jobs guided iPhone 5 work

SoftBank chief Masayoshi Son in the aftermath of Steve Jobs' death has strongly hinted that a full-fledged iPhone 5 should have Jobs' direct influence. Commenting on the loss, he told Reuters that Jobs not only had direct input into the iPhone 4S but to the "following additional work." All the work that Jobs had spearheaded in his last days will carry over, Son said.

It was expected that Jobs' work would at least carry through the next several months. Even during his medical leaves, Jobs provided input on major projects and in some cases visited the Apple campus. A strong chance exists also that Apple has a multi-year roadmap that would at least set it on a similar path to what Jobs would have taken.

Much of the design work often occurs through the divisions headed by senior VPs at the company, such as the aesthetics of Jonathan Ive or the more immediate hardware engineering of Bob Mansfield. Jobs in his later stages at Apple was best known for his long-term vision as well as his attention to detail.
