Openreach FTTP fiber service to offer 300Mbps

The UK's BT Openreach provider has promised to bring 300Mbps download speeds with its Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) service in the spring of 2012. It currently offers 110Mbps downloads and will be available in six locations by the end of October, according to ITPro. The company is also holding trials for a 1Gbps version of the offering in Kesgrave, Suffolk.

FTTP services are first due at Ashford in Middlesex, Bradwell Abbey in Milton Keynes, Highams Park in North London, Chester South, St. Austell, and York. Communications Minister Ed Vaizey said he wants the UK to offer the fastest broadband offering by 2015. This should help the country attract high-tech companies and businesses.

BT has also vouched it will expand the network as it needs to depending on demand. BT will rent out its FTTP lines to other companies. It has permission to nearly double speeds sometime in 2012.
