HTC unwraps Sensation XL with 4.7-inch screen, Beats

updated 01:20 pm EDT, Thu October 6, 2011

HTC Sensation XL brings Titan features to Android

HTC's special London event saw it roll out its largest-ever Android phone. The Sensation XL, previously nicknamed the Runnymede, has the same 4.7-inch, 480x800 LCD and 1.5GHz, single-core Snapdragon as its Windows Phone equivalent the Titan but has a much heavier focus on music. It takes on the Beats audio processing from the smaller but faster Sensation XE and comes with the same urBeats in-ear headphones, which kick in a special audio profile when plugged in.

The phone accordingly comes with 16GB of built-in storage, albeit with no card slot, and shoots photos with both eight-megapixel back and 1.3-megapixel front cameras. The rear camera has a wide, bright f2.2 aperture, although the processor choice caps video at 720p. Its design is relatively thin for the size at 9.9mm (0.39in) and comes only in a Beats-themed white.

Android 2.3 comes with the same Sense 3.5 custom interface as on the Rhyme and other late-2011 HTC Android smartphones.

Asia and Europe get the Sensation XL in November. Other countries haven't been detailed, although HTC is often silent on any international plans at first only to adapt to the US and Canada later.
