YouTube slips Android Ice Cream Sandwich intro on October 11

updated 07:30 pm EDT, Thu October 6, 2011

Google accidentally confirms Android ICS date

Google on Thursday inadvertently confirmed that the October 11 Samsung event was the official reveal date for Ice Cream Sandwich, or Android 4.0. A YouTube page (embedded below) has an "Android ICS Launch" live event slated to arrive in just under five days as of this writing, or exactly on October 11. Little else is mentioned, including in the "tbd" description.

The ICS release is now known for certain to be going hand-in-hand with the Galaxy Nexus, possibly called the Nexus Prime. It may be loosely based on the Galaxy S II HD LTE and share its very large 4.65-inch, 720p screen, five-megapixel camera, and LTE, but with unique design twists. The new Nexus will have a curved screen like Nexus S it replaces, carry NFC, and possibly switch to TI's dual-core OMAP chips instead of Samsung's own processors.

Extra touches may bring a very fast camera and a notification light.

The new Android leader phone could be ready as soon as late October or early November, possibly as a US exclusive. Rumors suggest that Verizon may have a US exclusive or at least a unique version.
