LG Optimus LTE arrives with 720p screen and dual-core

updated 07:40 am EDT, Tue October 4, 2011

LG Optimus LTE launches first in Korea

LG quickly confirmed leaks by launching the Optimus LTE as its new flagship. Apart from its 4G, the phone's focus is on its display: the 4.5-inch, 720p (1280x720) output matches that of the Galaxy S II LTE but uses an IPS-based LCD instead of AMOLED. LG claims better color accuracy and sharpness.

Regardless of the network pick, the underlying phone is still fast with a dual-core 1.5GHz chip (likely a Snapdragon). LG loads up a large 1,830mAh battery to keep the longevity reasonable with the LTE in place. An eight-megapixel back camera and a 1.3-megapixel front camera also make photography more of a highlight, and it can share what it creates over an HDMI video output or else DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct media sharing.

In its Korean form, the Optimus LTE will have support for T-DMB over-the-air TV. It should carry 4GB of storage built-in and a pre-supplied 16GB microSDHC card.

Korean carriers LG Telecom and SK Telecom are picking up the smartphone today. Outside launches have "not yet been determined," although LG's support for Verizon through the Revolution makes the new version a likely candidate for a Revolution 2 or similar model in the US.
