Nokia Maps for Windows Phone gets placeholder in Marketplace

Nokia Maps app set for Nokia's WP7 handsets

The highly regarded Nokia Maps service has been given an app placeholder in the Windows Phone Marketplace. The app is expected to be an exclusive for Nokia's forthcoming Windows Phone 7 mobiles, and is an example of the way in which Nokia will have certain privileges in its deal with Microsoft that will help differentiate its devices from competitors. Screenshots are embedded below.

The app is built on top of Nokia's Ovi Maps service that has been a pillar of its Symbian handsets. However, the new app interface has all the hallmarks of an app designed for Windows Mobile with its Metro-styled interface.

Nokia bills the app in this way:

"Nokia Maps helps you to be a local anywhere you go. See where you are and discover places nearby in a snap. Get reviews, uncover new destinations and reach them with smart routing for public transport, walking and driving."

In the screenshots, a large pinned map area for search results is shown. Place listings include a brief description, reviews and user submitted photos of the location. [via iStarted Somethin]
