Spotify adds private listening to avoid spamming Facebook

Spotify adds private listening after complaints

The founder and CEO of Spotify, Daniel Ek, just announced over Twitter that the streaming music service has added a Private Listening option to a new desktop client. This is in response to Facebook user complaints after receiving countless updates as to what their friends are listening to over the Facebook verbs feature introduced at F8. Ek likens the feature to a browser's private mode.

When the mode is on, Facebook users can continue listening to Spotify without broadcasting what current song it playing. It will be accessible from the menu bar. Currently, friends can see what songs a Spotify user is listening to in their News Ticker.

The updated Spotify client is now rolling out. [via SAI]
