Aston Martin, Apple, Harley-Davidson top 'cool' UK brands

updated 01:40 pm EDT, Wed September 28, 2011

Survey based on mix of industry, consumer opinions

Aston Martin has beaten Apple to the top spot on annual CoolBrands UK rankings for a second year in a row, the BBC notes. CoolBrands' charts are based on a mix of public polling and opinions taken from marketers and business people. Aston Martin's win is thought to be linked with James Bond, since the movie spy's most popular cars have typically been DB5s or DBSs.

Some 47 percent of women voted Apple the most popular technology brand, which the BBC suggests is reflective of the gender being just as into technology as men. 44 percent of women chose BlackBerry in the tech realm; RIM's smartphone brand is sixth in overall rankings. Harley-Davidson, Rolex and Bang & Olufsen fill out the top five.

Below the BlackBerry are Google, Ferrari, Nike, and YouTube. The source of fascination with Apple is unmentioned, but likely related to the iPhone, since the product is now the company's core business. The iPad has also been on the rise though, and some attention has returned to the Mac courtesy of the MacBook Air.
