LTE, Android phone targets multimedia fans

MetroPCS has officially launched its latest 4G LTE-enabled phone, the LG Esteem. The carrier is targeting the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) based smartphone towards "entertainment-minded" customers. Information on the Esteem was originally leaked last Thursday.

The phone runs on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and is paired with a large 4.3-inch Gorilla Glass touchscreen. The rear facing main camera shoots five megapixels and supports 720p HD video recording. For video chatting, the phone also sports a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Talk time is up to just 3.5 hours on the CDMA network, and standby is up to 200 hours. Multimedia apps already loaded on the phone include Rhapsody Unlimited Music and MetroSTUDIO.

The phone is very similar to the LG Revolution, which Verizon began carrying earlier this summer. The Esteem is available now. MetroPCS prices it at $349 off-contract with a $100 rebate until January 1, 2012.
