Supports QuarkXPress 9.1, App Studio
Quark has released an update to the Quark Publishing System, v9.1. The upgrade primarily implements support for QuarkXPress 9.1, and the matching App Studio, used to create and publish iPad publications for the iOS App Store. Audio and visual files stored within QPS can now be incorporated into Composition Zones and as shared material, which should allow multiple designers to use common and consistent sources.
The iPad is a particular focus of v9.1 update, since users can merge multiple projects into a single issue, automatically trigger iPad output based on a schedule or a status toggle, and choose to publish iPad content to a web or file server. Companies can meanwhile configure separate workflows for different publications and assets, and add video editors and multimedia specialists to them.
The Web Hub has been improved with changes such as the ability to check in multiple assets at once and via drag-and-drop from the filesystem. Other upgrades have been made to system administration and user workspaces, for example permitting ePUB publishing from all clients. QPS 9.1 requires OS X 10.5 or later on Macs, and also supports Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
