Inmoo apps stream indie movies free to iPhone, iPad

updated 06:55 pm EDT, Thu September 22, 2011

Nine new films available each week

Inmoo.com, which has been streaming independent movies and short films on its website since last year, has announced two iOS apps -- Inmoo Free for the iPod Touch and iPhone, and Inmoo HD for the iPad. Both apps, which are free but ad-supported, offer a choice of nine new independent films per week from Inmoo's growing content library. A paid version of the apps (Inmoo Plus) offers access to the entire library, advanced search and filtering as well as a forum.

Half of the ad revenue goes back to the filmmakers, creating an easy vehicle for indie filmmakers to recoup some of their costs and gain exposure. The apps integrate Facebook and Twitter messaging to enable users to share clips and spread the word on films they discover. The films, series and shorts offered cover all genres and a number are available in foreign languages. A short ad, matched to be relevant to the content, plays before each film.

The player software adapts to the bandwidth available and works with both Wi-Fi and 3G. Inmoo and Inmoo HD are free of charge, and both offer an in-app upgrade to Inmoo Plus, which costs $5 (and can also be bought separately). Inmoo apps for Boxee and Roku are also available, with an Android version planned.
