updated 08:25 pm EDT, Thu September 22, 2011

Arrests occur in San Francisco and Phoenix

The FBI has reportedly arrested two individuals who are accused of participating in hacking attacks organized by LulzSec and Anonymous. The Justice Department suggests charges have also been filed against a third suspect, while search warrants have been executed at separate locations in New Jersey, Minnesota and Montana.

One of the arrested suspects, a 23-year-old from Phoenix, has been charged with conspiracy and unauthorized impairment of a protected computer, according to a Fox News report. The charges follow an SQL injection attack aimed at Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Another suspect, a 47-year-old from Mountain View, California, stands accused of conspiracy to cause intentional damage to a protected computer, causing intentional damage to a protected computer, and aiding and abetting. A third suspect has been accused of the same list of charges, though the 26-year-old Ohio resident remains at large.

The individuals from California and Ohio are both accused of orchestrating a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, which brought Santa Cruz County, California government servers to grind to a halt.

The arrests are only the latest move in an ongoing enforcement effort in the US and abroad, following a long list of attacks that have been claimed by LulzSec, Anonymous and other groups.
