Apple adds five more stores to confirmed weekend openings

updated 01:30 pm EDT, Tue September 20, 2011

Group spans Canada, France, Italy, Australia, US

Apple has revealed five additional store openings taking place this weekend. Outlets in Shanghai and Hong Kong were announced earlier this week, but the company has only just, for instance, confirmed that it will indeed launch the Metrotown location this week. The shop is based in Burnaby, British Columbia within the greater Vancouver area, and will start taking in the public at 10AM Saturday morning.

In Australia a store is coming to Hornsby in New South Wales, while in Italy the target is the Centro Sicilia in Catania, making for Apple's southernmost outlet in all of Europe. France's new Parly 2 store is based in Le Chesnay near Versailles, and by extension, Paris. A full five of Apple's nine French stores are clustered in or around the Paris area.

Back in the US the company is launching a New Haven outlet in Connecticut. The site's special significance is its proximity to the remodeled Yale University bookshop, giving access to lucrative educational shoppers.

After the weekend is finished Apple will be up to at least 28 out of 30 new stores it promised to open between July and September 30th. That implies that still more announcements are coming shortly, whether for the current weekend or the days immediately following.
