Motorola Edison for ATT identified in FCC filing

Motorola's MB865 has been given a more definitive codename but also a less ambitious plan. An FCC filing has given it the at least temporary codename of Edison and pegged it as running on AT&T's network, as expected. No mention is made of the 700MHz frequency range AT&T would need for LTE, however, hinting that the Android phone may just be considered a straightforward upgrade to the Atrix rather than an LTE showcase.

Most other tips surrounding the Edison have hinted that it could just be an AT&T adaptation of the Droid Bionic. If so, its screen will be larger than that of the Atrix at 4.3 inches and switch over to a faster TI OMAP processor and eight-megapixel rear camera. AT&T is likely to get at least 14.4Mbps HSPA data out of the Edison and could go to 21Mbps.

Release timing has always been vague for the smartphone. With an FCC approval, it could be in stores before the fall. The CTIA's fall trade show is in mid-October and could be AT&T's earliest target window for an appearance.
