LG LU6200 slip promises high-end 4G Android phone

LG is prepping a very high-end Android flagship if a Korean scoop proves authentic. The LU6200 should be LG's foil to the Galaxy S II LTE with its own dual-core 1.5GHz chip, a Snapdragon, and the same 4G support. Its key difference would be the screen: its 4.5-inch display would jump to 720p and use LG's own AH-IPS, which should be both more color-accurate than a rival tech such as Samsung's Super AMOLED Plus and chew less power.

The design should also bring in an eight-megapixel rear camera, a 1.3-megapixel front camera, and a 1,830mAh battery to give it reasonable power. Extras beyond the usual could include NFC wireless for short-range tags and payments as well as DMB digital TV tuning in LG's native Korea. Choosing LTE and the large screen has left the phone being somewhat thicker than rivals, at 10.3mm (0.4in) thick.

The LU6200 could ship before the end of the year and might come in time for Android's Ice Cream Sandwich update. At first, however, it might only ship to Korea. Its design makes it a prime candidate to reach Verizon early in 2012, but this hasn't been verified. [via GSMArena]
