Claims access to 'inside resources'

Accessory maker Case-Mate has published images depicting cases for an alleged iPhone 5 design, reports note. The images are consistent with cases being produced in Asia, showing a phone with a flat back, tapered edges and elongated volume buttons instead of circular ones. Case-Mate's images also imply an aluminum back instead of glass. On one of the company's webpages, it claims to have "inside resources" on the next iPhone's specifications and launch date.

"The new iPhone 5 will feature a completely different form factor than its predecessor. Wider and thinner, the redesigned device features an extended home button. The screen size could see an increase to 4 inches," Case-Mate writes. "Also included in the iPhone 5 will be an A5 dual-core processor, similar to the one used in the iPad 2. It will also be equipped with an 8 mega-pixel camera, wireless charging and iOS 5, which features iCloud portable storage capabilities.

"The latest report is that the iPhone 5 will be available on all major carriers across the globe, including China Mobile, which has 600 million subscribers. In addition, it will be available in black and white with 16GB and 32 GB options. Insiders expect an early October launch," the company continues. It adds that based on its resources, Apple "will be indeed launching both an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S in early October," the latter having the same shape as the iPhone 4 but getting modern amenities like an A5 chip and an 8 megapixel camera.

Case-Mate's assertions are likely to be just educated speculation, or potentially outright wrong in the case of the 4S, since it's not clear how (if it exists) the phone would differentiate itself from an iPhone 5 beyond looks. Keeping the old shell and scaling back to 8GB of memory might make for a cheaper alternative to the 5. Case-Mate's claims are otherwise mostly consistent with reports about the iPhone 5, the main exception being wireless charging.

Be disappointing if the iP5 does not have a 64GB capability. I want that more than the bigger screen size.
